Yoga Therapy

What is Yoga Therapy?

Yoga Therapy is a self-care approach to wellness. Everybody is different so I adapt yoga practices for clients with health challenges. During a session you will be given a bespoke practice to take home, including postures, breathing exercises, relaxation, meditation or mindfulness techniques to suit your individual needs.

How does it work?

The aim is to work together, client and therapist, to explore the most appropriate techniques and tools that will be most helpful to improve your health and wellbeing and support any on-going issues that may be causing stress or some of the other negative impacts of illness, injury or pain.

Yoga is a combination of physical and mental disciplines which make the body stronger and healthier, the mind calmer and more controlled helping towards a healthier, more positive, and active approach to life.

Although regular yoga classes can improve general health and resolve mild complaints, they may be ineffective for some health conditions. General yoga classes are mainly associated with postures, but it is just one of the many tools that yoga has to offer.

Some of the most profound tools that yoga has to offer include: conscious breath regulation, meditative practices, visualisations, use of sound, lifestyle changes and dietary recommendations among many others.

This makes the healing process very comprehensive and extremely specific to the individual.

What happens in a session?

A session is based on the health questionnaire you complete when booking and usually lasts 90 minutes. We begin with an assessment of your conditions, this process usually begins with a posture and movement assessment and observation of breathing patterns.

Working with breath, movement and awareness, we use restorative poses to experience deep relaxation and healing. We will define short and long-time goals, and work with specific yoga techniques towards addressing any physical, mental or emotional imbalances. At the end of our session you will be given a practice to address your specific needs and that will support your journey to increased health and wellbeing.

Sound Therapy

What is Sound Therapy?

Sound Therapy uses sound, music and specialist instruments played in therapeutic ways, combined with deep self-reflection techniques to improve health and wellbeing.

I use Himalayan bowls and Crystal bowls plus percussion instruments played in a way to help improve your health and wellbeing using sound as if they were ‘sonic vitamins’.

What happens in a session?

I use the BAST method of sound therapy.

All you have to do is relax on the floor or on a chair and bask in the tuneful beauty of 'pure' sound..

Sound therapy can allow you to sustain a deep altered state of consciousness by applying sound in a specific way.

This is a state that helps many people to relax deeply.

A session begins with the Himalayan singing bowls to settle you in, l then follow with crystal bowls ending with percussion instruments giving you the chance to focus on the therapeutic potential of the sounds.

Ending with an element of reflection, the sound therapy session aims to help you relax, relieve muscle tension and help manage stress.

Why Is Sound So Effective?

Sound provides a bridge between our bodies and the world we live in.

Sounds trigger memories for us about our own past experiences as well as sounds of nature putting us within the context of the wider world.

Sound is a powerful tool for communication and expression influencing our emotions.

Sound therapy techniques help people with a wide range of stress related conditions including chronic pain, insomnia and anxiety. Sound therapy is said to help not only physical illness, but also help balance the emotions and quieten a busy mind. Most clients feel calm and relaxed following a session.
