What is yoga therapy?
Yoga therapy adapts yoga practices for people with health challenges. With yoga therapy sessions you will be given a set sequence of postures, breathing exercises, relaxation, meditation or mindfulness techniques to suit your individual needs.
Yoga Therapy is a self-care approach to wellness. The aim is to work together, client and therapist, to explore the most appropriate techniques and tools that will be most helpful to improve your health and well being and support any on-going issues that may be causing stress or some of the other negative impacts of illness, injury or pain.Yoga is a combination of physical and mental disciplines which make the body stronger and healthier, the mind calmer and more controlled helping towards a healthier, more positive, and active approach to life. In yoga therapy we use the tools of yoga such as breathing techniques (pranayama) to improve control of your breathing, and allow the body to work in harmony with the breath. It has been shown that stress and pain can be reduced through the use of pranayama.

How does it work?
Using a gentle therapeutic orientation to yoga that is supportive of those with limited mobility or living with chronic pain and illness. The emphasis of this work may be towards the body, the mind, the emotions or a combination of these.

My role as a yoga therapist will be to tailor a yoga practice to  your individual needs, health problems, constitution and circumstances. Yoga therapy can be practised in conjunction with medical treatments being received and also in tandem with other complementary therapies. It is essential to check with your doctor before beginning a course of yoga therapy.

Yoga therapy can help with many medical conditions to help improve your quality of life if you are living with common medical conditions such as back pain, high blood pressure, diabetes, arthritis etc..
Perhaps you suffer with chronic fatigue, IBS, depression, stress and anxiety.. Yoga therapy can help with weight loss, menopausal issues and addiction. It can help support individuals with Pre/Post Cancer Recovery, or those who are coping with chemotherapy and radiotherapy and rehabilitation from surgery.

Although regular yoga classes can improve general health and resolve mild complaints, they may be ineffective for some health conditions. General yoga classes are mainly associated with postures, but it is just one of the many tools that yoga has to offer. Some of the most profound tools that yoga has to offer include: conscious breath regulation, meditative practices, visualisations, use of vocal sounds, lifestyle changes and dietary recommendations among many others. This makes the healing process very comprehensive and extremely specific the to the individual. I am a yoga teacher with additional training and experience in the therapeutic adaptation and application of yoga.


How do I book an appointment?

Book online and a health questionnaire will be sent to you via email before our initial consultation you will be asked to fill in this form and return it back to me.

Initial Consultation

This will be based on the health questionnaire you have completed and usually lasts 90 minutes. The first visit begins with an assessment of your conditions, this process usually begins with a posture and movement assessment and observation of breathing patterns. We will work with breath, movement and awareness, using restorative poses to experience deep relaxation and healing. We will define short and long-time goals, and work with specific yoga techniques towards addressing any physical, mental or emotional imbalances. At the end of the consultation you will be given a practice to address your specific needs and that will support your journey to increased health and well-being. All that is then needed from you is the desire to help yourself and the willingness to practice regularly.

Subsequent sessions 

We will review where you are and how things are developing, following these discussions we will decide how to further develop/adjust your practice. All sessions are supplemented with a bespoke home practice. 

A minimum of five yoga therapy sessions are recommended including the initial consultation in order to allow you to acquire a basic embodied memory of the key practices. And to facilitate change that you are looking to create in your own life.
Sessions can be weekly/fortnightly and ideally within a two month period. You may wish to continue sessions after this period, building up a longer more advanced programme, or return back for a session after a month or two to re-adjust your practice.
